Have any of you heard of the musical or movie "Jesus Christ Superstar"? If you are young, probably not, if you are a teen, maybe. If you have not seen it, then you are in for a huge and wonderful experience that just might change your life. It did mine!
The reason for this page is to share with you my experience with the movie and musical Jesus Christ Superstar and it's meaning for me.
When I first watched the movie "Jesus Christ Superstar" I was only 11 years old, and I won't say when that was. :) but it wasn't until many, many years later when I watched it again that it literally changed and saved my life! Why? because at that time in my life I was feeling alone, scared, and feeling like I had nothing to live for. I was in a very sad and lonely place.
I was raised in the church, but I never had a real relationship with Jesus. He was always someone who was more like a God who I could not relate to. He seemed almost out of my reach..like I couldn't talk to him about real problems. I had real issues going on in my life! I needed someone who I could talk to plainly and simply and know that I was being listened to.
When the movie first came out, people banned it and put up a huge fuss about it just like "The Passion of the Christ" by Mel Gibson. It was kind of rebellious to go and see it ! The people in it were real hippies!
When I watched it later in my life, it really spoke to me. I understood that Jesus was a real man! He felt pain and understood what I was feeling. I really felt like Jesus reached his arms down from Heaven and held me in his arms that night and comforted me when I needed it so very badly. I had felt covered in sin. After watching the movie and praying to Jesus like a real person who could understand how I was feeling, I felt accepted for who I was regardless of what I had done. I felt loved unconditionally.
Now for a background on the movie, It was filmed in Israel in the early 1970's. It is about a group of kids going to the holy land to re-inact the holy week (the final week of Jesus's life). Ted Neeley, who played Jesus, told me that it was in the 100 degrees most of the days of the filming. (I have met Ted several times since I saw the movie and the musical.) I also met Carl Anderson, who played Judas, who unfortunately has passed away a few years ago and is greatly missed. He was a spectacular guy with an incredible voice! Ted and Carl both said the cast of the movie were all "changed" after making the movie..spiritually. Ted also met his wife during the making of the movie who was a dancer, the best one, according to Ted. :)
Please watch the videos I have placed here for your enjoyment. Ted is also currently touring with the musical and might be in your area soon! Check your area to see. You don't want to miss it or his fantastic voice. Give it a chance, you never know what might bring you to Jesus. If you stay after the show, you also could meet Ted. There is nothing like a Ted hug!
