If you are new to this Christianity thing, then we really need to go back to basics.
Jesus was a man who lived over 2,000 years ago. Well, he was more than a man, he was also the only son of God. In the Bible, John 3;16 states: "For God so loved the World, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
God cared deeply about the men and women he had created and saw that they needed cared for. They needed redemption. He wanted to better understand them..how they felt, what they needed, what they desired. So he sent his son to live as a human being to live with mankind to live, breathe, feel and experience everything that man did.
Jesus was born as a baby (you know the Christmas story, right?), he grew as a child..little is known about his childhood except that his father was a carpenter and that Jesus ran away from his parents once on a trip to Jeruselem, to go to the temple. And, yes, he got into trouble for it just like all kids do!
Jesus grew to be a man, performed miracles, recruited disciples etc. but the most important thing he did on earth for us was to be tortured and to die on a cross for us so that all of our sins could be forgiven forever so that we could go to heaven.
That includes you and me.
That is the most amazing part!
