Spiritual Gifts (Kids)

Spiritual Gifts, Do you have any?

This is a topic I was discussing with my 9 year old daughter when I was writing the page on Spiritual Gifts for teens.  She asked me to explain to her what they were and if she had any.  We talked about her interests and heartfelt desires (passions) and figured out what her gifts might be.

She and I decided that other kids might want to know what their gifts are so this page is for you, Christian kids, who, because you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and savior have been filled by the Holy Spirit and therefore have spiritual gifts!

I hope that this page will help you figure out what your Spiritual Gifts might be so that you can fully develop them and use them for the Glory of God.

So, what are your interests?  What do you really get EXCITED about when it comes to your Christian beliefs and Jesus?

First of all, I will let you know what the Spiritual Gifts are:

  • Giving (Someone who will give what others need)
  • Teaching (Someone who has the ability to make others understand God's word.)
  • Helps (Someone who meets others needs with work or helping them)
  • Prophecy (Someone who will tell the Word of God boldly to others.)
  • Giving (Someone who will give what others need.)
  • Mercy (Someone who acts on feelings and compassion for others.)
  • Leadership (Someone who is able to lead, organize and direct others.)
  • Healing (Someone who God uses to heal others.)
  • Miracles (Someone who God uses to perform miracles.)

Most of these are pretty understandable...and you would know if you have the gift such as performing miracles or healing., others are not so clear cut.

Think about what comes naturally to you.  What do you care deeply about and are you good at it?  When you are using your spiritual gift, you are usually filled with joy or a sense of great happiness and peace in your heart.

Ask your parents or pastor what your spiritual gifts might be.  Ask your pastor or youth minister for service opportunities where you may feel you might have talent.   God will use your talent to help your spiritual gifts grow.

Go to nursing homes, children's hospitals, food banks, animal shelters etc. to see if you have the gift of mercy by how you feel or react in these situations.

Get involved in your drama ministry if your church offers this to see how you feel when you do it.  Allow your spiritual gifts to grow and mature.

Volunteer to greet at church, read bible verses in Sunday school, help you neighbors by mowing the lawn or shoveling snow, weeding gardens, etc.  Pray for your family, your friends, your pets, your teachers, pray for someone who is sick, lay your hands on them (with their permission).

My point is, to test the water...see what happens..see what you feel passionate about!!  See what you feel joy about!!  What do you feel Jesus is leading you to do?

Ask others around you to give you feedback (what they think) about you and your gifts.  Ask other kids to join you!  There is no age limit on spiritual gifts!  I guarantee you have them!  The HOLY SPIRIT provides them.  Ask Jesus to help you in your quest to discover them.  Like I always say, if you ask him, he will definitely help you!  Keep talking to him and asking him for support and direction.  He will show you the way and point you in the right direction!

Get out there and find your gift and feel the joy!
